Road to the Creation of OHS

January 2003
Domestic Preparedness Report prepared by DeLaine E. Yates and Reginald A. Parks. This report raised the awareness level of our "homeland" Prince George's County.

March 2003
44 recommendations were submitted to improve the vulnerabilities of the County. Executive order to establish the Office of Homeland Security was presented to County Council (CB-21-2003). The Homeland Security Threat Level was raised from "Yellow" to "Orange".

February 2003
Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) was assembled by Dr. Jacqueline F. Brown, Chief Administrative Officer, to conduct and assess the vulnerabilities of the County.

April 2003
County Council unanimously approves CB-21-2003.

June 2003
OHS applies for and is awarded its first State Homeland Security Grant.

July 2003
Office Of Homeland Security Becomes An Official Prince George's County Governmental Agency.

April 2004
Vernon R. Herron, confirmed as Homeland Security Director.

May 2004
Deputy Director, Operations Officer/Planner, Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator hired.
