County Leaders Join to Appoint Gang Task Force
Prince George's County Executive Jack B. Johnson joined County Executive Douglas M. Duncan in announcing the formation of the Bi-County Task Force on Gang Activity.
Co-chairing the group will be Prince George's County Police Chief Melvin High, Prince George's County Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Health and Human Services James A. Dula, Montgomery County Police Chief J. Thomas Manger and Montgomery County Health and Human Services Director Carolyn Colvin. The announcement was made at the Langley Park Community Center.
Jack Johnson and County Executive Douglas M. Duncan are committed to working together to make our communities safer." "We will work collaboratively to address the core issues, not just from a law enforcement aspect," said Johnson.
"Gang activity is on the rise throughout the Washington region and working together as neighbors to address the issue will enable us to be more effective in coming up with solutions,' said Duncan.
Law enforcement officials estimate there are 3,000 gang members in the Washington metropolitan region. The charge to the Task Force will be to identify, research and recommend strategies that focus on prevention, intervention and suppression solutions.
The task force will present their report and recommendations to County Executives Johnson and Duncan in September 2004.

To manage and control gang activity in Prince George's County through effective implementation of prevention, intervention and suppression strategies that coordinate the efforts of public and private institutions; provide optimistic alternatives to citizens and residents to ensure livable communities that are healthy, safe and peaceful.
