Fire Prevention is charged with the responsibility of research and planning,
code enforcement, project coordination, and inspection of public, private,
commercial, and residential facilities for the recommendation of adequate fire
and rescue protection and life safety throughout Prince George’s County.
Goal
To ensure the facilitation and provision of the most comprehensive, cost
effective fire protection measures to structures and facilities within
Prince George’s
County, through benchmarking and trend-setting processes using cutting-edge technology,
state-of-the-art equipment, and a constant commitment to quality service for
Prince George’s County.
Code Enforcement
- Inspection of public and private schools, day care centers, group homes,
congregate living facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, alternate living
facilities, housing for the mentally-challenged
- Coordination of public safety efforts with other County agencies
- Issuance of code violation citations
- Fire and Life Safety inspections and permitting
Project Coordination
- Oversight of construction and renovation projects for the Prince George's
County Fire/EMS Department
- Drawing and reviewing architectural and engineering plans for the numerous
building projects that the Fire/EMS Department undertakes
- Site coordination and liaison activities between the Fire/EMS Department,
other County agencies, contractors, and career and volunteer personnel
- Monitoring of progress on all construction projects and evaluation of work
proposed and performed, to ensure compliance with County ordinances
and procedures,
County building codes, and job specifications
- Assist Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission (M-NCPPC)
in evaluation of Master Plan updates
Special Hazards
- Inspection of high occupancy load buildings (i.e., FedEx Field, Prince
George’s
County Equestrian Center, churches, schools, etc.)
- Conduct capacity checks at nightclubs, restaurants, etc.
- Conduct fire related inspections in special occupancy classes as prescribed
in the Prince George’s County fire code
- Process and handle all code related complaints
