Public Meeting To Review Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan
LARGO, MD - The Prince George's County Department of Environmental Resources (DER) invites County citizens and residents to attend a public meeting to review and comment on the draft Hazard Mitigation Plan on March 9, 2005, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Parks Department Administration Building located at 6600 Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale, Maryland.
DER is leading the development of the Hazard Mitigation Plan. The result will be a plan of action to reduce the long-term impacts of flooding and other natural hazards on the County and the City of Laurel.
A draft Hazard Mitigation Plan has been prepared by a committee of County agencies involved in various facets of hazard mitigation, disaster response and recovery operations. The draft plan will be available for review at public libraries and on the Prince George's County website at www.co.pg.md.us.
The final mitigation plan will include the following:
- A description of natural hazards that have occurred or may occur
- A description of flood risks in various parts of Prince George's County and the City of Laurel, including summaries of past flood events
- As assessment of existing programs and regulations that are intended to minimize disaster losses
- Goals for managing hazard-prone areas and reducing future damage
- Recommended actions to achieve those goals
