County Announces Mulch Giveaway
LARGO, MD - In observance of Earth Day and its continued
support of County Executive Jack B. Johnson’s “Livable Communities
Initiative,” the Prince George’s County Department of Environmental
Resources (DER) will sponsor a “Mulch Giveaway” on Saturday, April
23, and Sunday, April 24, 2005.
Mulch will be available to County citizens and residents for pickup from
8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Western Branch Composting Facility located
at 6601 S.E. Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro (from Crain Highway, proceed
on Maude Savoy Brown Road and follow the Visitors Center signs to the Facility).
Free mulch is restricted to non-commercial vehicles, ¾ ton maximum
weight. A skid loader will be available to load mulch into pickup trucks.
Residents who do not have a pickup truck should bring their own containers
and loading tools.
Past response to the DER event has been tremendous. Last year, 270 cubic
feet of mulch was given away. Residents are also invited to tour the Facility’s
Visitors Center to learn about the composting process and other recycling
programs. For additional tour information, contact DER’s Recycling
Section at (301) 883-5045.
